Two of Ohio’s top middleweights are set to square off at Bellator 78 in Dayton on Oct. 26, as Brian Rogers (9-4, 2-2 BFC) will take on fellow Ohioan Dominique Steele (6-2, 0-0 BFC) on the event’s main card. Rogers confirmed the matchup earlier today during his appearance on Ohio MMA Radio.
Rogers comes in looking to rebound from a knockout loss to Andreas Spang at Bellator 66 in April. A two-time middleweight tournament semifinalist, Rogers has earned eight knockouts in his nine career victories, including a knockout of the year candidate via flying knee over Vitor Vianna at Bellator 61 in March.
Steele, who hails from Cincinnati, is a one-time Strikeforce veteran, as he claimed a unanimous decision over Chris Mierzwiak at “Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov” last September. He has finished four of his six victories via stoppage, but his last outing was a loss to UFC veteran David Branch at an event in Pennsylvania in January. This will be the first time inside the cage for him since he was involved in a car crash that killed fellow fighter Chris Smith in April.
Bellator 78 will also feature the semifinals of the Season Seven Welterweight Tournament, as Lyman Good (13-2, 6-2 BFC) will take on Michail Tsarev (24-2, 1-0 BFC) and Marius Zaromskis (19-6, 3-0 BFC) will square off with Andrey Koreshkov (11-0, 3-0 BFC). Bellator women’s 115-pound champion Zoila Gurgel (11-1, 5-0 BFC) is also expected to be in action.
