The lineup for tomorrow’s Bellator 71 event is complete, including four “Summer Series” light heavyweight tournament bouts and the NAAFS light heavyweight tournament bout.
But some late changes came to the card, which is set to take place at the Mountaineer Casino in Chester, West Virginia. Rich Hale (19-4-1, 4-1 BFC) was slated to take place in the light heavyweight tournament, but he became ill and was forced to pull out of the tournament. Hale’s replacement is Tim Carpenter (8-1, 3-1 BFC), who will step in to take on Beau Tribolet (7-1, 0-0 BFC) in a tournament quarterfinal. With the change, Carpenter’s original opponent John Hawk (7-4, 2-1 BFC) was left without an opponent for the event.
Lightweight E.J. Brooks (7-0, 4-0 BFC) also reportedly wasn’t on weight and his bout against Joey Holt (3-0, 1-0 BFC) was removed from the card.
Other local fighters were on weight, however. Dan Spohn (6-2, 1-2 BFC) will defend the NAAFS light heavyweight title in a rematch against Josh Stansbury (3-2, 0-0 BFC), Jason Butcher (3-0, 0-0 BFC) will take on Duane Bastress (5-1, 2-0 BFC), and Chris Goldbaugh (3-1, 0-0 BFC) takes on Kevin Zalac (3-2, 0-0 BFC) on short notice.
