The NAAFS returned to Akron last night, as “Combat Challenge 19″ featured a dozen bouts on an all amateur card.

In the main event, reigning NAAFS middleweight champion Dave Lastafka (6-1) suffered the first defeat of his career, as he ventured down to the welterweight division and was the victim of a heel hook at the hands of undefeated Evolve MMA product Josh Lasich (4-0). Lasich landed a couple of hard shots early before shooting for the takedown, and when Lastafka stuffed it, Lasich rolled back and grabbed the submission for the tap.

The event also featured a healthy dose of amateur women’s bouts, as the NAAFS continues to be one of the nation’s leaders in promoting women’s MMA. Rachel Sazoff (3-2) earned a bit of an upset over Ronda Gale (4-4) in the co-main event, and other notable winners were Rebecca Gruitza (3-2), Ashley Hawkins (3-1), and Ashley Rickard (4-2).

Light heavyweight Wayne Lanum (6-0) returned to action for the first time since 2009, as he picked up a unanimous decision over Tony Hodges (3-3) in another featured bout. Dominic Mazzotta (4-1) submitted AJ Carl (5-4) in the first round with a rear naked choke for his second straight win, and Shane Holbert (4-1) continues to be a force in the middleweight division as he knocked out Chad Catri (3-3) in the first round.

Josh Krizan (4-1) picked up a unanimous decision win, and Fadi Shulman (2-0) stayed unbeaten by handing Kegan O’Neil (3-1) the first loss of his career.
